The adorable Bear Hug crochet baby jacket free pattern comes in all sizes, from newborn to 24 months, plus the bulky hooded coat is easy to make.

About the crochet baby jacket
I’m so excited to share with you the Bear Hug Baby Jacket free pattern, a crochet baby jacket I designed that’s perfect for keeping little ones warm and cozy.
This hooded jacket is not only easy and simple to make, but it’s also ideal for advanced beginners who want to try something adorable yet practical.
I made this baby jacket with bulky yarn to ensure it’s extra warm, making it a great coat or chunky winter cardigan for chillier winter days.
I think the crochet jacket has a modern feel while still being undeniably cute, featuring toggle buttons, bear shaped pockets, and of course, the sweetest little bear ears on the hoodie.
Also, if you’re making it for a newborn, young toddler, or any baby in between, I’ve included measurements for all sizes up to 2 years old, so you can create the best fit every time.

Why you’ll love the Bear Hug crochet baby jacket
- 7 sizes, from newborn baby up to 2 year old toddlers
- Low-sew design, you only need to sew on pockets and ears
- Chunky yarn, perfect for cold weather
- Easy skill level
- Free crochet pattern
- Unisex design for boys or girls
- UK Version available here
How to crochet Baby Jacket?
Let’s talk about how to crochet the Bear Hug Baby Jacket, it’s a simple and easy project designed with confident beginners in mind.
I used Dreamy Wool Chunky, a super soft bulky weight 5 yarn, which gives the jacket that cozy, warm feel perfect for chilly days.
The crochet pattern comes in 7 sizes from newborn up to 2 years old, so you can make one for every stage as your little one grows! And because it’s slightly oversized, it’s made to comfortably fit over winter outfits, making it both practical and adorable.
The best part? It’s a low-sew pattern, you’ll only need to sew on the bear ears on the hood and the bear-shaped pockets at the end. The construction is straightforward, and the entire hooded cardigan works up quickly with the bulky yarn.
You’ll also need 4 buttons for the front, I used toggle buttons but any shape you like will work just fine. Don’t overlook the first step, checking your gauge is key to making sure the jacket fits your baby just right.

Very cute baby jacket. Do you know of a similar yarn to the one you are using? I am in the US and shipping is crazy for this yarn. Yarn Substitutions does not have this yarn in their database.
Thank you, the crochet pattern will work with any bulky weight yarn. Dreamy Wool have just posted a postage reduction update on their social media pages, there was some issues around the new US import taxes which have now been fixed.
