How to crochet the Brick stitch

The brick stitch crochet tutorial is intermediate to advanced skill level. Its a 8 row repeat and to complete the tutorial you will need to know all your basic crochet stitches as well as knowing how to drop rows and change colours. You can use any yarn with its recommended crochet hook size to complete the tutorial.

Brick stitch tutorial Pattern

Row 1

  • Use main colour (blue)
  • ch multiples of 8 for desired length
  • ch 2 more then start in 2nd ch from the hook
  • sc in all chains

Row 2

  • ch 1 & turn
  • sc in all stitches
  • ch x 2 and secure yarn to go back to later

ROW 2

Row 3

  • Turn work
  • Skip first st & attach brick colour (pink) to second st
  • *sc, hdc, dc x 3, hdc, sc, ch & skip st* : Repeat until 1 stitch remaining

Row 4

  • ch & turn
  • *sc, hdc, dc x 3, hdc, sc, ch & skip st* : Repeat until 1 stitch is remaining
  • Fasten off

Row 5

  • Go back to main colour (blue)
  • dc over the chains and into previous blue row
  • *sc x 7 in current row, dc over chains & into previous blue row*: repeat to end

Row 6

  • ch & turn
  • sc in all stitches
  • Change to brick colour (pink) on last stitch & ch x 2
  • Fasten off main colour (blue)

  • dc x 2, hdc, sc, ch & skip st
  • *sc, hdc, dc x 3, hdc, sc, ch & skip st* : Repeat until 4 stitches are remaining
  • sc, hdc, dc x 2

  • ch 2 & turn
  • dc x 2, hdc, sc, ch & skip st
  • *sc, hdc, dc x 3, hdc, sc, ch & skip st* : Repeat until 4 st left

  • Fasten off brick colour (pink)

  • *sc x 7 in current row, dc over chains & into previous blue row*: repeat until 4 stitches are remaining
  • sc x 4
