Crochet Patterns for Kids

Free & Easy Kids Hat Crochet Pattern
Copyright © Hookfully

This easy kids hat crochet pattern is easy skill level and designed to fit children aged 3 to 8 years old. With the weather getting colder my children needed new winter hats. Well it was a perfect excuse to get my hook out and start crocheting. These hats are so warm and cosy, my daughters love them. They have barely left their heads this week, they’ve even been worn to bed! It’s such a rewarding feeling to make a gift that’s so treasured.

Easy kids hat description

The easy kids hat should fit most children. Saying that it has been tested on children between the ages of 3 and 8 and there is room for growth. The head circumference is between 18” and 20”. The height of the completed hat is 7”. I created the stripes by using a multicoloured yarn. If you wanted the same effect you could simply change colours after each row.

How to crochet an easy kids hat

The easy kids hat crochet pattern is super easy to make and suitable for beginners. You’ll need to know basic crochet stitches. Additionally you’ll need to know how to work into the back loops as well as being able to increase and decrease. The hat is worked up in one piece with no sewing involved, unless you decide to sew on a pompom as I have. I chose to use ready made fur pom-poms on my kids hats. You could make your own if you like and it would look just as cute! To make the hat I used multicoloured Chunky (weight 5) yarn and a 5.5mm crochet hook. Don’t forget it’s important to remember to do your gauge swatch before starting if you want your hat to fit.
