Thanks for checking out my umbrella appliqué crochet pattern. I’m currently working on a granny square blanket for my daughters. I plan to fill each square with a different appliqué until I have a big blanket full of the things they love most! This rainbow appliqué is part of my Sun showers appliqué bundle. Keep checking back on my appliqués page to crochet along. The umbrella appliqué measures 8cm wide by 11cm high. I used 2 different colours to crochet the umbrella appliqué. You can use your appliqué to brighten up almost any of your crochet projects, I’d love to see what you done with yours!
How to crochet an umbrella applique
The umbrella appliqué crochet pattern is beginner skill level. You’ll need to know basic crochet stitches, simple increases and know how to work into a magic ring and the raw edge. To make the rainbow appliqué I used 2 colours of DK (weight 3) yarn and a 4mm crochet hook. The whole appliqué uses just 3g (10yds) of yarn.

Abbreviations
The following abbreviations are for all the patterns in the Sun showers applique bundle.
ch – chain
MR – magic ring
sl st – slip stich
st / sts – stitch / stitches
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
sc3tog – decrease (single crochet 3 together)
inc – increase (2 stitches in one space). use the same stich you previously used.
2hdc / 3hdc / 5hdc – increase (2/3/5 stitches in one space)
Gauge / tension
Gauge is important as everyone crochets with a different tension. Therefore, if your 2” swatch doesn’t match up you can change your hook size to suit your tension.
4mm hook – 2” x 2” = 7 rows of 9 hdc
Finished size – 8cm x 11cm
Pattern notes
I do not count chains in my stitch count.
Numbers in brackets are the number of rows/stitches.
Stitches separated with a comma are to be made in separate spaces. eg. (sc, inc) would mean sc in first stitch then inc increase in next stitch. eg. (sc x2, inc) would mean sc in first stitch, single crochet in second stitch, then increase in next stitch.
Make all colour changes at the end of the previous row.
When fastening off leave a long tail for sewing if you are attaching the appliqué to something. If you are not sewing the appliqué to anything weave in ends.
Supplies
You will need the following supplies to complete the crochet project (links will take you directly to my recommended supplies)
