Thanks for checking out my geo chunky basket crochet pattern. To begin I need to admit that I need a little more organisation in my life! I don’t like putting away my hooks and pins etc away half way through a WIP as I like them on hand and easily accessible. But the trouble with that is they can look a little messy when their just left on the table next to my sofa. Well this little basket is perfect to fit in my bits and bobs, plus their still on hand and look neat and tidy too!
Geo chunky basket description
The geo chunky basket measures 10cm high and 16cm wide. It’s a lovely size to fit in your crochet hooks, pins, stitch markers etc. The basket has a modern geometric design. As it’s made using chunky yarn and the base and walls are doubled up it looks lovely and chunky and is surprisingly sturdy for something made of yarn. Although I didn’t need to, you could even add a little cardboard to make it even more sturdy if you wanted to. Plus the design will allow this to be removed incase you want to pop it in the washing machine.
How to crochet a basket
The geo chunky basket crochet pattern easy skill level. You’ll need to know basic crochet stitches. Additionally you’ll need to know how to work into the back loops as well as knowing to make a bobble stitch. To make the basket I used chunky (weight 5) yarn and a 5.5mm crochet hook. Don’t forget it’s important to remember to do your gauge swatch before starting if you want your basket to be the same size. I also kept my tension quite tight in this project for extra sturdiness. There is no sewing involved in this pattern.

Abbreviations
ch – Chain
blo – Back loop only
sl st – Slip stitch
st/sts – Stitch/stitches
MR – Magic ring
sc – Single crochet
hdc – Half double crochet
inc – Increase (2 stitches in 1 space)
Gauge / tension
Gauge is important as everyone crochets with a different tension. Therefore, if your 2” swatch doesn’t match up you can change your hook size to suit your tension.
5.5mm hook – 2”x 2” = 5 rows of 6 hdc
Finished size – 10cm x 16cm
Pattern notes
I do not count chains in my stitch count.
Numbers in brackets are the number of rows/stitches.
Stitches separated with a comma are to be made in separate spaces. eg. (sc, inc) would mean sc in first stitch then inc increase in next stitch. eg. (sc x2, inc) would mean sc in first stitch, sc in second stitch, then increase in next stitch.
Right side – working from outside of the basket
Wrong side – working from inside the basket
