Learn how to crochet a granny stitch baby hat in all sizes from newborn to toddler with my free pattern and simple instructions for a classic granny stipe beanie.

About Grace’s Granny Stripe Baby Hat
This free crochet pattern is a modern take on the classic granny stripe beanie, designed specifically for comfort and style. I originally made this cute, simple hat for a friends baby, Grace. It worked up so beautifully that I had to share the instructions for five different sizes.
You can make this breathable hat for a newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, or a toddler. The lacy effect of the granny stripe creates a comfy fit that is perfect for girls, making it a wonderful quick gift for a new arrival.
The design features a ribbed brim that keeps the hat secure while maintaining a minimalistic look. It is a very simple pattern to follow. Because it is so quick to finish, you can easily stock up on multiple sizes in one evening.
This granny stitch baby hat is both practical and stylish, giving you a handmade piece that looks great and feels incredibly soft against a little one’s skin.

How to crochet a Baby Baby With the Granny Stitch?
To get started on your granny stitch baby hat, you will need worsted weight 4 yarn and a 5 mm crochet hook. I used velvet for mine because it is so soft and cute, but any medium weight yarn works perfectly.
This is a top down, one piece project which means there is absolutely no sew involved. Before you jump in, don’t forget to check your gauge to ensure the beanie fits exactly as intended for the size you are making.
The pattern is worked in rounds to create a classic granny stripe design. You can keep it simple with one color for a modern look, or you can use several colors for a classic granny stipe design to really make those clusters pop.
Since it is worked from the top down, you can see the hat taking shape immediately, and the simple looking brim has a lovely ribbed effect created by working into the third loops.
It is an easy, no-sew way to create a professional looking crochet beanie that looks adorable in every size from newborn to toddler.
